Rhubarb Crunch

Image
Wow, two food posts in a row!  I'm proud of myself.... and I actually took pictures this time!  Today is my sister's mother-in-law's birthday, so I thought I would make something yummy to go with us to our picnic at the beach.  See, yesterday I was given two beautiful stocks of rhubarb, and I was itching to make something with it!  Last night I was just too tired to clean my kitchen and then bake something after a long day shift, so I got up early and got it done!  And does my apartment smell good or what!  The recipe I used was from my family's cookbook, "Jeanne's Favorite Recipes."  There are so many good things in that book!  My family is from Minnesota, so there are a lot of casseroles and other yummy things, including about 10 different rhubarb recipes, so I picked one that I had all the ingredients for and voila!  Delicious smells wafting through the apartment! Of course... I thought  I had all the ingredients.  A...

Baked Potato with Chicken soup

Image
I made soup this morning.  Yup, got up early to do it and everything!  See, I was gonna make this last night, but then I fell asleep, and napped throughout a good portion of the evening, and then I didn't want to make it super late... and then of course because I napped like a goofball that I am, I had trouble sleeping and got up way too early this morning. So... I made the soup! And, let me tell you, it has turned out delicious! ..... And being the complete goofball that I can be, I didn't even think of taking pictures until the final shot of the soup in the pot. So, here is the recipe that I kinda made up as I went.  It is based off of a healthier version of baked potato soup, but then I deviated... like I tend to do with most recipes! Without further ado... here is the recipe! Baked Potato with Chicken 2 russet potatoes, cleaned 1/2 head cauliflower, cut into pieces 1 small onion, sliced 1 clove garlic, minced 2 cups low sodium chicken broth, plus 2...

Flaming Undead Unicorn of Doom! And Elves! And Trolls! And the start of a Tavern!

Image
Isn't this the most beautiful unicorn you have ever seen?   I think she is gorgeous!  Now to think of a name for her.  And to figure out how the heck I am going to paint her.   As you can probably figure out, I just (as in yesterday, seeing as today is Sunday) got my Elves and Co. from Stonehaven Miniatures in the mail!  It was awesome to come home after a very busy day at work (people want their booze for camping hahaha) and find these guys waiting for me.  But, seeing as it was a busy day and I was tired, I didn't take pictures or anything till today after work.  Or have the umph to write a blog post about it.  Now, as I eat my macaroni and cheese and sauteed brussel sprouts (don't knock it, they are delicious), I felt it was time to update!  So without further ado, here we are! Look at them!  Look at all the elves!  And animals!  And pixies!  And Gremlins!  And Grippli!  And I will shut up now!...

Some barn progress, and other 28mm (ish) terrain!

Image
Lets start with the barn, shall we?  I finally got in my little supply of coffee stirrers, which are awesome, by the way.  I have been doing quite a few things with them!  Laying down flooring, bracing walls, making things look awesome in general, and probably doing things in a way that probably has a better and less time consuming method that I am unaware of as of yet.  But, it has been kinda nice to do, and gives me something to do after work (which has been hectic with coworkers being out of town and all that.)  So, progress has happened!   What has been done with the barn:  The outer walls have been 'framed' with the wooden 'supports'.  Well, mostly framed.  I'm sure I'll end up adding to it later.  Also, I kinda want to put 'stone' on the bottom portion of the walls, but I'm still deciding how I want to do that.  I'll keep thinking on that one.  The insides have been started.  As I said previously, I'm sure ...

Beginning my barn!

So, its only been a day since my last post, and here I am making another one!  Aren't you so proud of me!  The reason is.... I got my animals!  Yes, the Pegasus Animals in size 1/48 that I mentioned yesterday ended up chilling in my mailbox as I was typing up the blog post.  So, on my way in to work, when I stopped to grab the mail, I was gifted with a lovely surprise!  Ahhh.... nice and happy! Now, I have begun the work on them.  So far, I've cleaned them up some (shaved away some flash, contemplated the size (friggin tiny for some of them) and so forth).  I have also made some awesome improvements to what I already had (the little shed that I wasn't quite sure what to do with.) Animals, all cleaned and de-flashed.   I know I said yesterday that I would probably be starting on the farm house for the human mini that I have, but now that I'm actually working on things, and add in the fact that I received my animals, I have begun work on my ...

Its been so long! Extracts, cross stitches and painting galore!

Image
Well, a few months.... well.... five months?  Eep!  I've been meaning to post sooner!  Since the last post, I have finally fully settled into my apartment, and have been enjoying living alone.  Although, it does get pretty quiet here.  I think that may be changing tho... new neighbors moving in next to me.  As long as they don't have a loud dog like the last guy I think I can handle it.  XD Hopefully.... Anyway, back to things happening in my crafting life. First update: Extracts.  Yes.... extracts *waves bottles of extracts imitating the 9th Doctor with the Anti-plastic* The vanilla extracts are both successes!  First, my rum vanilla extract.  I ended up keeping it sealed and shaking it once every few weeks all the way up til mid December.  So, thats about ten months I believe that I let it extract itself.  Pun totally intended there.  It is a lighter flavor of vanilla, and I will be using it in things that are ...

First Time Painting.....

Image
....Miniatures, that is.  Yup, I have gotten into the realm of miniatures!  Eh....  one more thing for me to craft with, I know.  And yes, I know it has been forever since I have updated this blog.  Life seriously kicked in for a while, and I spent two months homeless (well, living with my sister while looking for a place I could afford), but I am now in my own apartment!  Which means, I actually have space to do a lot of my crafts!  Woo!!! Well, I will be updating about the other ongoing crafts and stuff as I finally get around to them!  In fact, I started a new cross stitch, but I will not post about that one much until I finish/give the finished product to my friends for the holidays.  I don 't want them to get a sneak peak here..... So yes, back to my quick little update about the miniatures I have gotten into.  I had never gotten into miniatures, even back when I played D&D a lot more often than I do now (I live too far away...
